November 2015

September

Wessex has launched a luxury, high-end park home - the Cranborne. It is described as 'a traditional home with contemporary overtones'.  The 'L' shaped living space incorporates a lounge and dining area in natural tones and there is a high-gloss modern kitchen and luxury bathroom.

The company also offers the Seafronter, with a stunning glass front that opens and folds away to create an open-air, open-plan living space - perfect for beach or countryside.

August

Willerby Holiday Homes is asking for input into the design process.  Submit your thoughts on the Willerby range past and present to myideas@whh.co.uk with any feedback, comments and suggestions and play a part in the future direction of holiday home design. Willerby is also offering free tickets to The Caravan Extravaganza at The Lawns in September.

Lots for tots at Haven: When school's on, tots rule at Haven, where there's plenty to occupy little ones, from free clubs, sports coaching, crafts and adventure activities to breakfast with the Characters.

Hoburne Bashley was Highly Commended Award in the Holiday Park/Holiday Village of the Year category at the 2014 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence. The holiday park, in the New Forest National Park, was shortlisted after winning Gold at the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence late last year.

Park Holidays' site-swapping service: Park Holidays UK has launched a site swapping facility whereby the park operator will package up an owner's personal possessions, transport the holiday home and re-site the unit on one of their 23 parks.  The process is free for those moving from a park within 10 miles away, or at a subsidised cost if the distance is greater.

April

It is not too late to get away for Easter or May Bank Holidays - see Haven's website or Park Holidays, where there are Easter breaks from £69 or holiday homes to buy from £6999. 

If you are thinking of buying a holiday home, there's a free caravan exhibition in Shrewsbury from 25 April to 5 May.  A wide selection of new 2014 models will be on display. Hosted by Salop Leisure, the West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome Show is open from 10am to 5pm daily. More than 250 holiday homes, luxury lodges, touring caravans and motorhomes will be on display.

MARCH

The Southwest, where many of England's most popular holiday parks are located, is using Twitter to remind holidaymakers that, in spite of floods earlier in the year, it is now well and truly 'open for business'- see pictures.

Meanwhile, at Hoburne which operates several parks in the south/southwest, the sounds of the 70s, 80s and 90s will entertain visitors all summer long.

FEBRUARY

The Caravan & Camping Show makes a welcome return to the Birmingham NEC this month (18th - 24th February 2014).  Over 300 companies from the UK and Europe are expected, filling the halls with a sparkling display of lodges and luxurious holiday homes, caravans and related products.  Britain's Got Talent winners, Ashleigh & Pudsey, will be performing in the Dog Agility Theatre on 19th & 20th. Tickets for the show start at £7.00 and can be booked online.

JANUARY 2014

DECEMBER 2013

Hoburne Naish in New Milton, Hampshire, has won the Hoseasons Diamond Award for the best family fun holiday park in the south of England.  The coveted Awards are given for exceptional quality and outstanding customer service following feedback from customers.  Hoburne Naish is one of seven Hoburne parks across the south and south west of England.

Suffolk-based park and leisure home manufacturer, Omar, has bought Wessex Park & Leisure Homes.  Earlier in the year, Wessex had advised it was to close, because of the economic situation.  Omar will introduce a new 2014 Wessex leisure homes range early next year, and existing after-sales commitments will be honoured.

Park Resorts has joined with Wifinity to deliver the latest in superfast wi-fi to its 39 holiday parks. The service, which comes with no download or upload limit, will be available from early next year for free in each park's club areas. 

OCTOBER

Don't miss the Motorhome & Caravan Show at the NEC (15-20th October 2013). Melanie Sykes will open the show, while celeb chef Ed Baines will be cooking live! New models from companies such as the Swift Group, Allens Caravans, Pathfinder Park Homes and Omar Park Homes amongst others will be on show.  See the website to book advance tickets - prices start at just £7.00.

There's more live cooking at the West Midland's Caravan Motorhome show. Marcus Bean, a regular on ITV's This Morning, will be giving live cooking demonstrations. The show, which runs until October 13, is free to attend. 

SEPTEMBER

Heading south? The Holiday Caravan 2013 show at Beaulieu (27th to 29th September) will have more than 100 of the latest model holiday homes, lodges and park homes on show.

Swift's holiday home range will also be on display there - with revisions to the Burgundy and Auvergne ranges, the re-launch of the Bordeaux and upgrades to the Champagne and Moselle residential lodges.

AUGUST

NCC members up for awardsHoburne Holiday Parks has again been shortlisted in the prestigious British Travel Awards. The Dorset-based family business is a finalist in the Best UK Holiday Park Operator category for the second year running. Haven has also been nominated in various categories.

Winner of several awards, Ballyness Caravan Park in Bushmills in Northern Ireland is the newest recruit to the NCC Approved Holiday Park - Holiday Home Ownership scheme. It is one of the first small independently-owned parks to gain this Approved status.  See the website for the benefits that buying from an Approved park brings.

North and south - see the latest caravan holiday homes: The Caravan Extravaganza in Cottingham near Hull ('The Lawns') takes place on 7th and 8th September 2013 and will feature over 100 caravan holiday homes and a massive accessory shop.  There is also a small funfair for children, hamburger, ice cream and other food stalls, and entertainment to make this a day out for all the family.   

JUNE

This year at BBC Gardener's World Live (NEC 12-16 June), Pathfinder Homes, in association with The Dream Lodge Group, will be displaying their ultimate UK holiday home, La Belle Maison, set amongst the RHS Show Gardens. The lodge will be offered at the discounted Gardener's World Live show price of £159,950.

MAY

Holiday park operator, Haven, is trialling the use of solar panels on its holiday homes.  Haven partnered with caravan manufacturer, Willerby, to create a design that is relatively unobtrusive. Guests are unlikely to notice the difference because the power generated by the solar modules will feed directly into the National Grid.  Other green projects implemented by Haven include fitting high efficiency shower heads and using tap aerators.

Hotels not family friendly? A new survey has revealed more than quarter of a million British parents have cut short a family holiday because they felt their children were unwelcome or accommodation was ill-equipped for their needs.  Lack of kids clubs, evening activities and children's menus were all cited - all of which are widely available in Britain's holiday parks, which provide great family-friendly options.

MARCH

TV reminder: When do you need a TV licence for a caravan holiday home? When someone remains at home watching television!  If this is not the case, you don't need a second licence for your holiday home but will need to complete a declaration.

FEBRUARY

'Head for parks run by the likes of Haven Holidays, Parkdean, Away Resorts and Park Resorts for heated pools, sports facilities and entertainment' - so said the Daily Mail's travel section on Saturday 2ndFebruary.  And the paper advises people to get booking now, as demand for UK holidays is predicted to be high this year.

DECEMBER 2012

Park Resorts' mobile booking site

The park operator has created a mobile site that is quicker to load on a mobile phone than a conventional website. The site is fully transactional so you can browse and, crucially, book and pay for holidays from your phone. 

Longer opening for Hastings park

Coghurst Hall holiday park in Hastings has been given the green light to remain open for eleven months of the year - a four week addition to its previous ten-month licence. According to director, Tony Clish, of Park Holidays UK which runs the park, the extended season provides added value for customers.

New MD for Country Homes

Country Homes (Anglia) Limited  the lodge and park home manufacturer, has appointed Peter Berwick as their new managing director. With more than 20 years experience in the industry, Peter says he intends to work with customers to design future models.

AUGUST 2012

Park Resorts launches its first eco caravan

Park Resorts has teamed up with ABI to launch their first ever environmentally friendly caravan holiday home. The ABI Pure is available to buy across Park Resorts' 39 coastal holiday parks in the UK from just £30,995.
The eco caravan comes with added insulation in walls, roof and floor to reduce energy loss. It also features dual flush in the toilet cisterns to reduce water costs, low energy spotlights and double glazing. The company says it is 'constantly looking at ways of offering customers greener options'.

Omar builds to residential standard

From 1st September 2012, all Omar Park Homes' holiday and leisure home ranges will be built to BS3632, the full residential standard for park homes, at no extra cost. Omar's homes utilise engineered nail plated trusses and proprietary 'I' beams which, the company says, greatly increase rigidity and lifespan. Multi-chamber PVCu windows with energy efficient glazing and at least 250mm thick roof insulation increase energy efficiency, making homes suitable for year round-occupation (where the site licence permits).

Prestige launches 'most exclusive' Grand Symphony

Prestige Park and Leisure Homes chose the Stoneleigh World of Park and Leisure Homes event to launch their new leisure lodge, the 60' x22' Grand Symphony. Prestige says it is 'one of the most exclusive and sought-after park homes ever to go on the market'. 

Five stars again

Min y Don Holiday Home and Touring Park has achieved five star status, receiving a score of 98 per cent from Visit Wales. The 15-acre park has 112 caravan holiday homes and 82 touring pitches.

Flooding

If you own a holiday home in an area at risk of flooding, find out if you can receive free flood warnings from the Environment Agency in your area. Call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 and talk to your park about other measures that you can take.

Commendation for Sunset Park
Sunset Park in Hambleton, Lancashire, has been Highly Commended in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2012 in the category 'Caravan Holiday Park of the Year'. The awards, which have been running for over 20 years, are the highest accolade in English tourism.

JUNE 2012

Excellence award for Haven's Church Farm

Haven Holidays' holiday park, Church Farm nr Pagham, has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence award. The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is given to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor.  Andy Pope, General Manager at the Church Farm Park said: "We work hard to offer our customers a truly memorable experience."

New Seafronter and show centre for Wessex

Wessex Homes has launched a new luxury leisure lodge called the Seafronter, with a glass front that opens up and wraps away to create an open air, open-plan living space. The lodge has cross sawn oak flooring, an indulgent double sized hydro pool and intelligent under floor heating that can be controlled by mobile phone app - more details are available in the brochure

STOP PRESS: Government agrees to levy 5% VAT on purchase of caravan holiday homes

Government's Budget proposal to put VAT at 20% on caravan holiday homes, has been withdrawn. The NCC (National Caravan Council) lobbied hard against this move, believing it would be bad for the industry and for tourism.  It is now expected that holiday caravans will attract 5% VAT from April 2013 - park homes (i.e. any home built to BS3632) are zero rated.

MAY 2012

Hoburne makes 100

Hoburne Holiday Parks has celebrated its 100th birthday.  The story of what is believed to be the UK's oldest holiday park group still running began in May  1912 when the current chairman's great-grandfather bought a small parcel on land on the south coast at auction.  The Group now has seven parks and has just been nominated for 'Best UK Holiday Park Operator' in the British Travel Awards 2012.

Haven's website win

Park operator Haven has come top in a consumer survey looking at the best holiday websites. The company's haven.com site achieved an overall score of 84.5% in the latest eTravel Benchmark, compiled by eDigitalResearch.  Haven was commended for its appealing homepage and easy-to-navigate site.

Sunset Park is highly commended

Sunset Park  five miles from Blackpool in Lancashire has been Highly commended in VisitEngland's Awards for Excellence 2012.

New Wessex Gite is Grand Design

VisitEngland has launched a campaign to showcase holidays in the UK. The campaign aims to inspire people to holiday at home, through a new special offers website great2012offers.com. Special deals for Olympic year, including discounts of 20.12% off - or more - and other great offers are available from tourism businesses including Bourne Leisure  and Hoseasons Group.

Southern Counties Leisure opens new Dorset distribution centre
Southern Counties Leisure has opened a new purpose built showground in Bridport, Dorset. Willerby and BK Bluebird caravan holiday homes are on show at the centre, which is open seven days a week.

The Show will include a dedicated feature area showcasing a comprehensive display of holiday homes and lodges as the event's timing marks the start of the new holiday park season.

New contemporary leisure lodges from Omar
Omar Park and Leisure Homes has updated and refreshed its product range and launched six new luxury lodges. The recent ExCel show in February was the venue for the unveiling of Omar's latest contemporary lodge, The Inspiration.

Allens Caravans gets permission to expand
Allens Caravans has been granted planning permission to redevelop its Leedons Park site near Broadway. The redevelopment will see a new indoor swimming pool and hall, new bowling green and service buildings.

Caravan of love?
Caravan holiday homes are the new honeymoon hot spot for young couples seeking wedding night bliss on a budget, according to Park Holidays UK.  The company says that caravans are now a popular choice for newly weds who want space, comfort and privacy without the crippling cost of a luxury hotel.
 
Investment by Park Resorts
Park Resorts is investing £3.5 million to upgrade the accommodation on its 39 holiday parks in the UK.  New caravans will be purchased, with more than 100 new models being added to the fleet. Entertainment will also receive a boost for 2012 with new shows and giant screen technology.

Bunn Leisure Beautiful south award
Chichester-based Bunn Leisure has won Tourism South East's Caravan Holiday Park & Holiday Village of the Year at the Beautiful South Awards.  The company has recently invested £200,000 in a refurbishment of The Embassy Club - which hosts entertainment with top acts including Ben E King and Tony Christie.  A free Bunni Express road train takes holidaymakers between its four holiday villages.

Hoburne wins at Dorset Business Awards in centenary year

Dorset Business Awards. Chairman of the Dorset-based business, Rosie Kennar,
said: "I cannot think of a better way to kick start our centenary celebrations

Horse-friendly accommodation in Northern Ireland
Clogher Valley Country Caravan Park in County Tyrone has been accredited
by the British Horse Society (BHS) as the first Horses Welcome establishment
in Ireland. To receive the accreditation, the accommodation has to be independent inspected by the BHS.

For the second year running, Parkdean Holidays triumphed at the British Travel Awards.  The company won the Best UK Holiday Park Operator award, which is voted for by holidaymakers.  Parkdean also took a bronze award for UK/Domestic Holiday Company of the Year.  See www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk

Northern Ireland parks: written agreements
If you are a caravan holiday home owner in Northern Ireland, you should now have a written agreement with your park.  Under The Caravan Act (Northern Ireland) 2011, you should also be offered a written agreement 28 days in advance if you are a prospective buyer.  If this is not the case, contact the park in the first instance, and then Trading Standards if it is not rectified. 

Facebook connects communities at risk of flooding
If you are a caravan holiday home owner in an area at risk of flooding, Floodgroupuk can help.  It assists communities at risk of flooding to support each other by sharing information and advice.  The initiative is supported by the Environment Agency.
 
Olympic discounts for 2012
Bourne Leisure is one of the country’s top holiday brands that have signed up to a new 20.12 per cent discount scheme that will take place throughout Olympic year.  A big TV advertising campaign will detail when and where the discounts are available.

Caravan holiday homes to have energy efficiency grading scheme
The NCC, working with its member manufacturers, has developed an energy efficiency grading scheme for caravan holiday homes and park homes. The scheme, which will have an A-G rating scale, was launched at The Lawns show in Cottingham.

Normandy Lodge for Bourne Leisure
Hull-based manufacturer Normandy Holiday Homes has recently completed a high-end, bespoke lodge for the Far Grange Park & Golf Club, Bourne Leisure's flagship development near Skipsea in East Yorkshire.
The luxury lodge was built to a high spec, with three individually styled en-suite bedrooms and a quality bespoke kitchen. Tested to EU residential energy performance standards, the lodge achieved scores for energy efficiency and environmental impact that compare favourably with the average UK dwelling.

Holiday home owners urged to get appliances regularly serviced
The recent Gas Safety Week aimed to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. The NCC is reminding caravan holiday home owners that this is just as important in your holiday home. Work on gas appliances should only be undertaken by a suitably competent person - if in doubt, contact your park operator.

Consumers get greater protection with new Code of Practice
The NCC's Code of Practice for selling caravan holiday homes aims to set out clearly the standards and practices to be followed in the sale and pur¬chase of caravan holiday homes, and the agreement to occupy a pitch on a holiday park. Its clear, unambiguous information and contracts, used by NCC member parks and written in plain English, should greatly assist anyone considering buying a caravan holiday home.

Matrix wins ‘Best New Product' award
On its debut at a public exhibition, the Matrix Lodge from Prestige Park & Leisure Homes, was awarded ‘Best New Product' at The British Leisure Show. A holiday love affair lasting 50 years

Proving the ongoing popularity of caravan holidays is Pauline Simmons from Surrey. She has been holidaying at Bunn Leisure since it first opened its doors in 1959 when her parents bought the family's first holiday caravan.
