Special Needs & Accessibility
If you are disabled, or travelling with someone who is, holiday homes can offer an ideal solution. Several manufacturers - for example Lissett and Pemberton - now make specially adapted holiday homes. These have carefully thought-out additions, particularly for wheelchair users, including:
- electrically operated lifts to the entrance
- wide doorways and wheelchair stores
- adapted kitchens with specialist fittings
- wheelchair accessible bathrooms with grab rails
- shower seats and sensor taps
- low level power points and light switches
- panoramic windows for better viewing
National Accessible Scheme
As with hotels, there is a National Accessible Scheme Standard for caravan and holiday parks covering three types of impairment - mobility, hearing and visual. The NCC encourages its member parks to be part of the scheme - see Find a Park.
Each category is represented by a symbol. To learn more about the symbols or for more information about the scheme, visit the enjoyEngland website.
